KirstenLee Notes on S16
1) The Fastest Rendering Viewer in SL, and it's really quick both on start up and rendering in world even in laggy sims, the comments from users have ranged from 'wow' to 'bloody hell!' It uses a mixture of code from various viewers, bit of a hybrid really.
2) New UI skins, with clearer Fonts (and no licensing issues.)
3) Avatar Scanner - Scan up to 500 meters and across sim borders, brings up names and distance. Allows viewing of profiles and teleporting of friends.
4) Asset Browser - View every texture and photo in your inventory preview, or use the asset browser to apply the textures directly to builds via drag and drop.
5) More Prim manipulation different ways to cut prims in SL, and on opengrids micro and monster prim creation.
6) Some severe modification to what information is sent by the viewer when active - no sending of stats to a grid, such as FPS, Lang and version etc.
7) Modified network system viewerside.
8) Very low memory footprint runs much better on marginal hardware (older laptops) even runs on the Intel Atom-based Ultra Portables - Great for running multiple clients if needed.
9) Stable - Incorporated fixes that were either not used by Linden Lab or have come from sources not working directly on SL viewers such as RealXtend.

Unfortunately I dont seem to get the high fps expected....
MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz w/ GeForce 8600M GT 256MB
macOS x 10.5.6
running multiple threads, VBO enabled
the system is definitely snappier with the Kirsten viewer running, while with the LLabs one it really crawled....
nevertheless, with recommended graphic settings I get often less then 10fps
any suggestion?
seems strange, because on airbook with intel gma was about 13fps and here geforce, how much RAM in your MBP?
and it pretty much depends of place where are you inworld, some sims builded and textured, ahem, strange.
Thanks for your replies Hyang!
my MBP has 2 Gb of ram
one thing I noticed is that the amount of video ram always returns back to 96, whatever number I set, everytime I restart the viewer
could it be this the problem that causes my low fps?
how can I set it to 128 OR 256 and have it always like that?
I will check in other Sims, anyway
Thanks - I was just grumbling the other day that there was no mac version of this viewer, and here it is.
Maximilian, video ram could be issue, but i cant reproduce it.
Enjoy, Anonymous :)
build 91 should be soon, hopefully.
You're the best, Hyang! I can say that the kind of performance increase is pretty much the same I had seen on my partner's Windows PC...
Nice work, thank you very much!
Enjoy, Gwyn! :)
Maximilian, i checked it on similar MBP, but 2,5Ghz, 2G RAM and 8600M GT 512M, had 32 fps, but you right, it setting texture memory size automatically on every start. i'm not sure texture memory settings in hardware options can drop fps that much, tho.
Maximilian, how much fps you have usually, running other viewers, regular and maybe third-party?
a fresh installed 1.22 RC 5 went at 15-30fps, hyang
Maximilian, on fresh installed RC 1.22.5 you have 15-30 fps and on Kirstens Viewer not more then 10, right?
Well, for fresh testing i can suggest you remove ~/Library/Application Support/SecondLife folder and test both viewers, at least in 2-3 hours each. I realy cant reproduce 10 fps on KV now. i had 5-8 fps on kirstens viewer once, but i was in crowded place with about 60, maximum was 64 avatars in one room and had RenderAvatarMaxVisible set to 65, which means all avatars was rendered, not only 35 which it default.
Runs about 50% faster than my previous firmware!
dammit work, speedy , and stable ........but i ve some problem . I don't wanna come back to coolview now :P and my dom wanna kill me
mew mew angy
link isn't working for me.
lol, angy
Anonymous, which link?
ohoh, link fixed now
Generally a very nice viewer, but it appears to still have the "when snapshot size is bigger than window size crash" bug on the mac version. This bug appears to be fixed in the current 1.22 RC.

I'm going to test this one latter, when arrive home. I'm tired of the official client and the rendering stuff. I use Imac 20" 3 Gb SDRAm - ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO 256 MB GDDR3 Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard and with the official viewer or release candidate from LL I can not use the full windlight without see my FPS going really down.
@Naomah 1.22.5 RC you mean?
@ spyvspy enjoy! dont forget to tell how it works for you! :)
I'm just curious, do you have a privacy policy, or any assurances on the security of data transfer using your client port?
Ever since SL got hacked long, long ago...I've been creeped out about the vulnerability of data exchanged using it.

I don't know if it is the rolling restart but yesterday on my 1st test I got a very low performance on Kirsten s16 but when I've relog on the RC official I got a better performance. I will try latter when the Grid it is more stable

Openlife Grid decided to lock out all non-OL viewers (that's Kirstenlee's), including the offical SL as well as all 3rd party client. A very unfortunate move. My comment:
http://openlifegrid.com/Forums/tabid/323/aff/1/aft/135/afv/topic/Default.aspx
@Naomah RC 1.22.5 and 1.22.6 both freezing when i trying to make highres snapshot.
Very spiffy, aside from the part where it won't connect to any simulator.
Latest Leopard, 20 inch iMac with 2.0 GHz Core Duo, 2 GB RAM, 128 MB VRAM, ATI video.
Anonymous, try to set lower bandwidth, about 1000
not sure it viewer, tho
It performs worse than the LL standard issue client at the same settings. Losing 3-4FPS in Kirsten's.
MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHZ, 4GB RAM, 7200RPM 320GB HD, 10.5.6.
I think Kirsten's is optimized for enhancing Windows performance. It does jack s*** for the Mac.
The fact is that unless someone makes a Cocoa client we're all doomed to hell. It's just the simple facts of life. But if they do then it will be a revolution!
