I got the same probmen, tried both versions, and it gives me the message it cant find a file, because i might have multiple Versions running. That can not be the case, because this is the first version of Kirstens viewer i downloaded.
Please help, i am soooo curious to finally get a glimpse on the kirsten viewer on my mac
(MacBook Pro, 2,4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo)

any other sl viewer running?

Anonymous said...

nope no other viewer running, made a restart like in the message recommended and had no other application running, and i still got that message.
someone said it could be because i am running it on a german system. i have no idea if that could be the cause

tried, but cant reproduce

maybe try to remove Library/Application Support/Secondlife ?

delete the whole folder?

this is the full message i get:

"Kirsten S18 is unable to access a file it needs.

This can be because somehow have multiple copies running, or your system incorrectly thinks a file is open. If thes message persists, restart your computer and try again. If it continues to persist, you may nedd to completely uninstall Kirsten S18 and reinstall it".

hm i could give you the terminal message when starting Kirsten. if that help you to solve.... smile... dont want to bother too much though -)

I get the same error message. I spent the last day doing a complete reinstall of OSX, and just downloaded the viewer, so this is the only SL viewer I have. I tried deleting the SL application support folder, and deleted and reinstalled the Kirsten Viewer app several times. No joy.

found bug, fixed in S18-1

I'm having this same issue after installing Snow Leopard.
Did 18-1 come out? I can't find it on the blog :/

Im having the same issue, both before and after installing snow leopard.
The download page refers to the latest kirstens as KirstenViewerS18(204).Intel.dmg.zip last modified 04-Jul-2009 02:42 so it appears that this is not the 18-1.
I guess theres nothing that can be done to make it work until the 18-1 is posted.... would that be correct..??
Best wishes for having fun!!!

I remembered a work around to get Kirsten working again.

Open package contents and find the file arguments.txt
its located here /Applications/Kirsten Viewer S17.app/Contents/Resources/arguments.txt

inside it will have "--channel "Kirstens S17" --settings settings_kirstenss17.xml"

change the name slightly to make it be seen as a new app.

I just added a 7 to make it "…..kirstenss177.xml"

ok, guys, i'll do it

OOOH NOOoooo....
i am unable to edit the arguments.txt file... read only

im stuck now... ever since i tried using S18, NONE of the kirstens builds work... not even the S17 that was working fine before i tried the update... :(

is there ANY chance we might get a working build posted for download please?? most current is from 4 july and its the middle of september

thank you!

Hi Hyang, you marvellous Mac compiler, and the source of all our happiness :)

S18(204) seems to have some weird behaviour sometimes. In my case I don't get errors: it's just that it seems to "lose" the connection with the sim, stops downloading textures, and gets "lost" in what it was doing (it looks like it has assumed that via a "burst" of new texture calls, that should be enough, and when they don't arrive, the viewer is baffled and doesn't request any more — ever). This is hard to reproduce. Nevertheless, Kirsten has addressed quite a lot of issues on the latest versions; S18(209) has been out, and all versions above 204 seem to fix a lot of problems that were introduced in the first incorporation of the Snowglobe code.

I'd be really delighted if you simply got S18(209) compiled for the Mac to see if the "weirdness" disappears. I'm expecting S18(209) to beat Snowglobe in performance again, and, of course, produce much nicer images as usual :)

I just installed the new Mac OS, Snow Leopard and now the S18 viewer isn't working for me. I get a message saying ..
"Kirstens S18 is unable to access a file that it needs. This can be because you somehow have multiple copies running, or your system incorrectly thinks a file is open. If this message persists, restart your computer and try again. If it continues to persist, you may need to completely uninstall Kirstens S18 and reinstall it.:

I've tried all these suggested solutions to no avail. Is anyone else having this problem? Do you know if there's a fix?

Thanks!

sfbaywater: You can modify arguments txt. You need to make sure Kirsten is in your home folder and not applications folder. When in app folder, it treats you as an outsider, put it in your folder and then reinstall or restart. Hope that works.

Heya,
Just tried the changing arguments alteration and it didn't work either. Anybody have any clue how to get Kirsten to work with Snow Leopard? Or what may be the problem? Helppppp!
