About Voice in third party viewers

1) download official viewer 1.23.5 from Lab.
2) open application with right click (or ctrl-click if you on apple laptop with one trackpad button) -> show package contents
3) copy SLVoice libalut.dylib libllkdu.dylib libopenal.dylib libortp.dylib libvivoxsdk.dylib files from Contents/Resources folder to same folder in your emerald viewer.app
4) enjoy voice and raised video performance.

practically same steps for cool sl viewer.

Hyang,

By "practically the same" for Cool SL do you mean it is the same or there are slight differences? I use Cool SL Viewer as my primary and would hate to mess something up in my ignorance (which I freely profess {g}).

Instead of opening the Emerald package, open the Cool Viewer package. ;-)

I've done it and it seems to work, but in all honestly I don't see improvements on my particular setup.

we not allowed to re-distribute voice&kdu binaries with any third party slviewer builds.
all vivox&kdu stuff removed from packages on server and will not be there anymore, unless lab and/or vivox&kakadu change any licensing or disributing rules.
thats why i made this post again actually.

I just want the thank Hyang Zhao for all the help to get voice to work with Emerald Viewer for Mac.
I would like to re-write the directions to make it a little easier for others to understand.
In a nut shell, you will need to copy 6 files from the SL Viewer application to the Emerald Viewer application. These files are not in any folder on the Mac. They are only able to be viewed by right clicking on the icon and selecting "show package contents."
I am using Snow Leopard 10.6.2, but the same method should work regardless of version.

1) Download and install the SL Viewer software for mac. http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php. This link may change in time, but you need the viewer.

2) Download and install the Emerald Viewer for Mac from http://modularsystems.sl/downloads.html#

3) Go to your Applications folder and find your SL Viewer icon. Right-click on it and select "show package contents." Double click (open) the "Contents" folder. Open the "Resources" Folder. Leave the window open.

4) Go to your Applications folder and find your Emerald Viewer icon. Right-click on it and select "show package contents." Double click (open) the "Contents" folder. Open the "Resources" Folder. Leave the window open.

5) Go back to the SL Viewer window. You will need to find the following 6 files on the SL Viewer-->Contents--->Resources Folder

SLVoice

libalut.dylib

libllkdu.dylib

libopenal.dylib

libortp.dylib

libvivoxsdk.dylib

6) Copy (but do not drag) these 6 files from SL Veiwer-->Contents--->Resources Folder to the Emerald-->Contents--->Resources Folder

Use care to copy ALL 6 files to the correct place.

7) Close all the windows and run Emerald Viewer. The "Talk" button on the lower right hand side should now be available.

Thanks again to Hyang Zhao.

you forgot to mention the file "SLVoice", in the same location, to copy as well. The talk button was not available for me until I added that file.

if you trying copy files in viewer folder on disk image, it will fail.
drag and drop viewer in /Applications and then copy files

YAY! thank you, i followed all the steps with as much frustration as my computer illiterate brain could cope with. After getting a little flustered and restarting sl again and again once following the steps it finally dawned on me to restart my mac.... SUCCESS! ty ty

Like Maisie, I followed those instructions, and

libalut.dylib
libopenal.dylib

were not in the folder. I see this post began in December of 09, anyone figured this stuff out yet? If so, please help!

Thanks. ^^

I'm the anonymous from the last post, posting again as I've found a solution to the missing files. I followed the directions only instead of copying the resource files from the SL viewer folder, I copied it from the Patcher resources folder (all of them), and just tested Emerald, and Voice is a go. :)
