hi, i am totally lost when it comes to mac's but i got an sl frind thats on an old g4 laptop and sl runs so freakishly slow on it. will any of your viewer builds work on that machine?
I run SL on my 15" PowerBook G4, and I think poor performance is just to be expected. I'm stuck with 32MB of video memory, and have only 512MB of RAM. I'm sure I'd get a bit of a boost if I upgraded but old PowerBook ram is irritatingly expensive (I'm just gonna save up for a new PC).
The only thing he/she can do is tweak settings to make it playable. Which basically involves reducing everything to minimum and seeing what can be comfortably increased.
Opening the advanced menu (control + option + d), going to debug settings, and changing "renderfarclip" to like ... 20.000, helps. Much lower and the camera wigs out when zooming in on things, including yourself if you're trying to edit your avatar.
This results in ... tolerable performance, for me. Though get more than 10 users in the same area and that changes ...
